The Heritage Area String Program
Founded in the 1970s, the Community Heritage Area string Program, a non-profit, parent-run organization, has provided musical opportunities, instruction, and fun to students from Boyle and surrounding counties. Students have the opportunity to learn one or more of the orchestral stringed instruments: Violin, Viola, Cello, and String Bass. Classes meet twice a week after school. Orchestra meets one day a week for 2 hours. This opportunity is also available to a limited number of students through the Danville Schools Foundation Heritage Area Strings Program. Danville Children’s ChoirDanville Children’s Choir
After 15 successful years and a 5-year hiatus, this group was revived in 2011. One year after its rebirth was invited to perform at the World Choir Games in Cincinnati in 2011. The organization’s Preparatory Choir welcomes new singers in grades 1 through 4; the Concert Choir is for students from grade 4 through high school. After an introduction, meeting with parents about mutual expectations and responsibilities, interested students are invited to audition. Sounding Joy
Auditions are held periodically for women over 16 years who have some experience with solo or choral singing. Its 30 to 40 members come together for the joy of singing choral music of many styles and cultures. They strive for excellence in music-making and generosity in mutual support. Summer Singers
Everyone who loves to sing is welcome without audition to join this large group of men and women who enjoy singing a wide variety of choral music. Danville Blues Society
The Danville Blues Society, a local chapter of an international organization, is affiliated with the Blues Foundation located in Memphis, TN. Their goals are to preserve Blues history, promote the blues through performance, and support Blues education. Jazzitude
Offering big band sound, Jazzitude”, a 17 piece jazz ensemble, comprised of 5 saxophones, 4 trumpets, 4 trombones, 1 guitar, 1 bass guitar, 1 keyboard, and 1 drum set, is open to high school and college age musicians, as well as adults in the greater Danville community.
