Artscene Our free newsletter, ARTScene, offers a two-month calendar of upcoming local arts events, performances, and exhibits. Copies are available in many public spaces, such as the Boyle County Library. Members receive a copy by mail. This bi-monthly publication is created as a courtesy by Dixon Design in Danville. Printing and mailing costs are funded in part by the Kentucky Arts Council, with support from the National Endowment for the Arts. The Art-full Raffle The Art-full Raffle is held bi-annually to raise funds for the Arts Scholarship Program. First held in in 2003, the event is made possible by the donation of artwork and arts-related services from local artists and arts-related businesses. Each item, worth at least twice the cost of the raffle ticket, is selected as numbers are drawn during a gala reception for ticket holders and donating artists. More than $5,000 for Arts Scholarships was raised at the last Art-full Raffle. A Friday night Preview Party with musical entertainment and appetizers was a popular addition to the Raffle this year. The next Raffle is set for May 15 (Preview Party) and May 16, 2009. If you would like to support the Arts Scholarship fund by purchasing a raffle ticket for $75, by donating an original work of art or arts-related service valued at $150 or more, or by making an individual cash donation, please contact Ann Nichols at 859-238-0063 or arts-dbc@hotmail.com[1link]. Gallery Hop Stop The first Gallery Hop Stop was held in and around Danville in November of 2004. More than 50 local artists exhibited their work at 22 local businesses, agencies, or private studios who acted as hosts by providing exhibit space and refreshments. Local musicians volunteered to perform at various venues. Exhibits included painting, jewelry, photography, stained glass, pottery, fiber art, wood carving, and more. The event supports the downtown business district by bringing people into various business spaces and provides new exposure for the artists. The Gallery Hop Stop continues to be a much anticipated event. Each Hop showcases both new artists and returning artists with new work. Gallery Hop Stops have been made possible through a generous grant from Kentucky Utilities and E.ON US. The next Hop is set for Friday, June 12, 5:30 - 9pm in downtown Danville. ![]() Youth Art Fair An Art Fair featuring work by children from local public and private schools is held annually in conjunction with the Heritage Festival sponsored by the Citizens Concerned for Human Relations. Visitors and proud parents are delighted by the opportunity to see their sons or daughters artwork in a public exhibit. This is a busy season for teachers, too; the fact that they are willing to take extra time to help make this event successful speaks of their commitment to children. The Arts Commission recognizes the important role teachers play in fostering a love of the arts. |
