Arts for Kids, ETC is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide theatre arts training and performance opportunities primarily for the benefit of young people and to support arts-in-education, artists, and the arts in general throughout the community. The theatre-training program consists of age-appropriate and developmental classes ranging from Creative Dramatics and Acting to Musical Theatre, Playwriting and Directing. Production and Performance classes culminate in studio and public performances. Arts for Kids, ETC provides arts-in-education workshops and professional development for teachers, arts outreach programs and collaborative projects with other community and arts groups. Arts for Kids, ETC promotes the development and exposure of local artists as valuable community resources and provides opportunities for artists to share their work and talents through workshops, classes, and performance. Volunteers play a key role in all our programming. We strongly encourage community participation whether artistically inclined or just interested in having a good time.

Kids come first at Arts for Kids, ETC. Gaining skills to formulate and express ideas and speak or perform comfortably in front of an audience and exposure to the arts and culture help kids compete in today’s world. Positive interaction with peers and caring adults staves off unwanted influences and paves the road to becoming successful, contributing members of the community. At Arts for Kids, ETC, we respect the individual needs of our students. Some kids leave the program better prepared for careers in entertainment, media, theatre, and the performing arts. All kids leave with a better understanding of themselves and the world around them, possessing valuable skills to meet life’s challenges.

Danville Independent Schools

The Arts are flourishing in the Danville Schools! All five schools enjoy a strong and growing commitment to providing curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular learning opportunities in visual arts, dance, drama and music. Certified teachers in the arts work with students daily in the classroom creating lessons that are aligned with written curriculum and assessment strategies. With the help of grant funding approved through the Kentucky Arts Council, Guest Artists from various disciplines and cultures collaborate with our teachers on instruction. Performance opportunities, including Band, Choir, Drama Clubs, Speech and Forensics and Odyssey of the Mind take place both during and after school to ensure that all students have a chance to participate in the arts. Students from the Danville Schools consistently participate in and achieve honors in All-State Choir, Regional Band Contests, State and National Speech and Forensics Tournaments, and Odyssey of the Mind competitions and earn places in Governor’s School for the Arts.

During 1998 – 1999 a major renovation of the Danville Schools Gravely Hall Performing Arts Center occurred. Now, it’s the home to classes, programs and performances that serve our students and the community. We enjoy strong ties to arts groups in our community that provide additional exhibition and performance opportunities for our students, including the Arts Commission of Danville/Boyle County, Arts for Kids, ETC, the Heritage Area String Program, West T. Hill Community Theatre and Centre College. To keep up with upcoming arts events at the Danville Schools, please visit our web site or contact Jane Dewey, Director of Arts Education, Danville Schools.
