McKune Arts Scholarship Program

Since it was created in 2004 as a project of the Arts Commission, the McKune Arts Scholarship Program has awarded more than $10,000 to more than 150 local kids for participation in arts activities beyond what is available within local school curriculums. The program provides assistance to students, ages 3 to 18, who have demonstrated interest in any arts discipline, but whose families do not have financial resources for expenses associated with specialized extra-curricular arts instruction or activities, such as fees, lesson books or artist materials.

Recent awards have provided participation in the Heritage Area Strings Program; Arts for Kids; TheatrEXPands; Danville Children’s Choir; Community Arts Center Arts Camp; Drama Camp with West T. Hill Community Theatre; dance classes through the Boyle County Recreation Department; plus private lessons in drawing, guitar, piano and cello. To be eligible, students must live or go to school (including home school) in Boyle County. Scholarships of up to $150 per child per year are awarded on the basis of verifiable financial need.

Funds for the scholarship program come from private donations or result from the Art-full Raffle, a bi-annual event produced by the Arts Commission, held specifically to support this program. You can support this important work with a financial contribution, by donating an original artwork or arts-related service valued at $150 or more for our fund-raising event, or purchasing a ticket to attend our next Art-full Raffle.

If you know a child who deserves supplemental funding (up to $150) to pursue an arts activity, please request an application by contacting Ann Nichols at 859-238-0063 or arts-dbc@hotmail.com. or download the application form as a PDF.
